5 Best Replacement Windows for Ventilation

Building materials have come a long way in the last decades and insulation is better than ever. While this is great for energy efficiency, it can result in a significant lack of ventilation leaving the inside air stagnant and polluted. That is why it is so important to choose replacement windows in Concord, CA that promote better airflow. Here are some of the most popular styles for ventilation:

1. Double Hung Windows

These are such a traditional window style, and a classic for good reason. For double hung windows both the upper and lower sash move up and down in the frame. By opening both forces the warmer air out the top and pulls cool air in through the bottom. They are great for areas with restricted opening space.

2. Casement Windows

Casement windows hinge to one side and open like a door, so you do need to account for outdoor obstructions. They operate easily with the use of a crank and work well for spaces above the sink or behind couches. And you have great control over the amount of ventilation. You can take advantage of the full window opening, or just crack the window slightly. And because of the way they open, you can even place casement windows to catch wind that blows along the side of the home for better airflow.

3. Single Hung Windows

Very similar style to double hung windows, but with single hung only one sash moves up and down. These are good to install along walkways or patios because they do not take up any extra space outside. And you do have some control over the amount of ventilation getting through these windows, but you will only ever be able to open half of the window.

4. Horizontal Sliding Windows

These are like single hung windows but tipped on the side. They feature one inoperable sash and one operable sash that moves back and forth on a track. They are a staple of almost every home because they are a simple design, easy to operate, do not require extra space, and provide a great view as well as plenty of ventilation. But like single hung windows, you will only be able to open half of the window.

5. Awning Windows

These windows hinge at the top and open outward, creating a small roof over the opening of a window. These windows are great for ventilation, and you can even open them when it is raining outside. The roof protects the opening and keeps the moisture out while still allowing fresh air in.
